March Sadness - Elite 8

Gotye and Kimbra may have faded in round one, but Allure and 112’s All Cried Out has made it to the Elite 8! Which made me realize, often the best break up songs are the ones that give us multiple perspectives. The ones that remind us there are always three sides to the story and if the third is a ballad, you have music magic.

There is no duo that has done it better than Toni Braxton and Babyface with their 2014 album, Love, Marriage and Divorce. The entire album is one long goodbye. I have listened to it approximately 1000 times over the last four years since it has become a favorite on the “Nap Time Playlist”. The fact that I can still listen to it, speaks to exactly how good it is.

Beyond my clear bias for that album, it made me think about some of the relationships I have had in the past. How do they tell the story of our demise? I assume I am the bad guy, but how bad am I? And for those who are honest and accept that maybe we both go things wrong, what song played out in their head?

Here are the Elite 8 of song duos that you should definitely have on your playlist!

We Cant Be Friends – Deborah Cox and R.L.

Brokenhearted – Brandy and Wanya

Just A Fool – Christina Aguilera and Blake Sheldon

We Don’t Talk Anymore – Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez

Stay – Rihanna and Mikky Ekko

I Need You Now – Lady Antebellum*

Like We Never Loved At All – Tim McGraw and Faith Hill

Too Good – Drake and Rihanna
